Lake Leelanau Classic
9/16/17 & 9/17/17

Our 2017 season wrapped up with a 2-day Classic on Lake Leelanau this weekend. The lake, which offers a north and south lake and the narrows, would prove to be a challenge for anglers charting new waters with unseasonably warm weather, water temps around 70 degrees, and a short blast of rain on Day 2. Leelenau is known for its smallmouth, and we got up close and personal with quite a few of them, several over 4 lbs.
In the end, it was Doug Hall and Ryan VanDeBurg who came out on top. Leading after Day 1, they pulled out just enough on Day 2 to take 1st place with a total weight of 39.71 lbs. Not far behind in 2nd place were Chad Bleeker and Chuck Burhans, with a total of 38.09 lbs. Third place went to Forrest Brown and Chris VanHouten, who topped their first day by nearly 2 lbs. for a total of 36.73 lbs. The prize for the biggest bass of the tournament went to Doug Hall, who on Day 2 weighed the only bass over 5 lbs., with a 5.25 lb. hog. Congratulations to everyone who earned their spot in the Classic. For complete results, scroll down. For all photos from the event, check out the photo gallery. |
